About Me
Welcome to my gaming blog. My (nick)name is Noj, and I was born at the very end of the 1970s in Budapest. I've been playing video games since I was at preschool. I played Alley Cat, J-Bird and other DOS games when they were brand new - on PC at my parents' workplaces.
We didn't own any game consoles, so I missed out on all those games. However, my father was given a PC by his employer at the very beginning of the 1990s. After that, we children lived on such games as Prince of Persia, Xenon 2, Street Rod and similar classics.
After I discovered SimCity, I realized I enjoyed that open-ended strategy game more than anything. It was my favorite game until 2000 when The Sims came out. Then I spent more than a decade raising sims, building them homes and writing stories about them. Meanwhile I graduated from college, started working, had a baby, but "simming" remained a part of my life.
The Sims 2 (2004) is still my favorite. I did not enjoy The Sims 3 (2009) for several reasons - such as ugly sims who are too smart to be funny and genetic inheritance which worked so well in The Sims 2 being messed up - while The Sims 4 (2014) could simply not offer me enough new things to get me excited. So my simming era ended in 2015.
In 2009 I saw a movie which blew my mind, Avatar. Being someone who was always more interested in fantasy than reality, that movie was made for me. The 3D and the breathtaking computer animation was something I had never seen before but always dreamed of. I still did not own any game consoles, so I bought the PC version of Avatar: The Game. As a game, it is just OK, but it perfectly captured the feeling and scenery of the movie. A few years later, my own daughter was at preschool, and she watched the movie on 3D TV countless times and loved playing the game.
At the end of 2012 I started thinking about getting a game console to be able to play gorgeous games easily on a large TV screen. There were news about the latest generation of consoles coming out, so I didn't buy an Xbox 360 or PS3 but waited a bit longer. In the fall of 2013 I got an Xbox One from the UK, a year before it became available here in Hungary. In 2016, I traded it in for an Xbox One S.
Over the past years my daughter and I discovered many beautiful fantasy worlds just like I hoped. :) I don't let her watch scenes that are inappropriate for her, and she is not interested in completing big games anyway, but she loves to explore the worlds of my completed games and enjoys games made for kids.
In the summer of 2017 I decided to create this blog to document my adventures in gaming. It will feature playthroughs, commentary, news and screenshots.
Happy gaming and happy reading. :)
