The tale of light and shadows has come to an end

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - the video game where every random enemy gets a battle theme other games would give the final boss after who you thought was the final boss. :) Or not even them. This game is a prime example of how a video game can be art, and I would love to show it to everyone who still thinks playing video games means nothing but shooting at things with a machine gun.

After I finished the main story, I turned the difficulty down from Expeditioner to Story and enabled Auto QTEs. I knew the hardest battles were ahead of me and well, I was a bit tired by then. :)

First, I finished the Endless Tower. Only the last three battles of the regular trials were missing at that point, so Level 11. Then I defeated regular Simon with a 74M+ hit from Maelle in his second phase. I was curious if I could defeat him on Expeditioner and Auto QTEs disabled, so I summoned him again to try, but Maelle wasn't hitting hard enough. I never got Medalum for her, and I wonder if that would have made a difference. It probably wouldn't have.

Here's my take on the "are one-shot builds cheating" debate. No, I don't think it's cheating, especially if you figure it out for yourself how to do it, but I would even go as far as saying that if you took the time to study the whole system of pictos, luminas, skills, weapons and turn order, then read through posts and comments and watched video guides like I did to finally achieve this, then you also did not cheat. It would be like saying you cheated at life, because you went to school and learned from a teacher instead of figuring out things for yourself. So I don't feel bad. Do I wish I had the time to play games so much that I would learn these things on my own? Sure. But I don't blame myself for not having more free time as a full-time working mother.

I then went to explore the DLC area Verso's Drafts which looks amazing! I enjoyed the quirky little dialogues with the gestrals, not so much some of the infuriating minigames which are on par with those on the gestral beaches which I had also quickly abandoned. The bosses in this new area were easy for me with my OP build, with the exception of Osquio. It took me an hour to finally defeat him only to find out he will do one last gradient attack which will wipe your party if you are unprepared, and there isn't even a reserve team option this time! I couldn't be bothered to retry that battle.

Finally, I went to check out the DLC bosses at the Endless Tower. I visited Clea Unleashed briefly and decided to not even drop in on Super Simon or whatshisname and the other new residents. Nah, those superbosses are not for casual gamers like me. :)

So with that, I called COE33 done. Oh, and I had chosen Verso's ending. Not because I think it's "better". I think both endings are equally tragic, but I felt like choosing reality over living in a dream was the right thing to do.

I want to play this game again sometime in the future with French dubbing. :)
